Firefox for developers: WebRTC vs Web Audio vs Audio/Video

NNTP-Posting-Host:  63.245.214.181

On Firefox for developers pages, we sometimes have all three of these as headings for lists of changes. Sometimes general media stuff is under WebRTC. Sometimes it has its own section. Sometimes we put Media Capture and Streams stuff under an Audio/Video section with Web Audio. Sometimes Web Audio has its own section too.

We need to normalize this.

I’d like to propose standardize on:

Audio, Video, and Media

Media Capture and Streams

(MediaStream Recording?)

Web Audio API

Web MIDI API

WebRTC

The question is, do you go with each API listed separately or merge the ones that are closely related, such as Media Source Extensions with Media Capture and Streams (in which case presumably calling it “Media Stream APIs” or something)? For that matter, a similar argument could be made for the APIs related to graphics and animation:

Graphics and animation

Canvas

SVG

WebGL

WebVR

… etc… Any opinions? I definitely need to straighten out the situation with media stuff at least. Eric Shepherd Senior Technical Writer Mozilla Developer Network Blog: https://www.bitstampede.com/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/sheppy
