The fact that he would be 'traveling' and that he last 'traveled' whenever,
rather than 'travelling' and 'travelled' respectively, would explain (but
not excuse) his ignorance of the international boundaries that run across
this island.
I feel the same when somebody ignores the boundary that follows a line
running (approximately) between Chepstow and Chester, and refers to the
lands to the west of said boundary as E*****d also. Certainly Welshmen have
no problem recognising Scotland (aka Yr Alban in our own language) as a
separate country and fellow Celtic land.
