A letter to the editor in this morning's Chicago Tribune addresses the
topic. The writer opens with a quote about the new pope from the previous
day's paper: "Conservative on social issues, church doctrine; champion of
the poor." He then asks "Isn't this a contradiction in terms? How can the
pope be a champion of the poor if he is against birth control?"
